Y2K - Some Opinions and Advice
God did not come back and save the Jews or remove
the Christians from Nazi
Germany 60 years ago, God is not going to come back to rescue you just
because Mr. Coffee decided to retire January 1, 2000.
My Case (by example):
God will come when
God obviously cares about you, as you have a
computer and are able to read
this page. Please read on...
For those of you who doubt that 12/31/99 (or should
I state it as 12/31/1999
as to stay Y2K complient) is going to be a more troublesome day than
most
other New Year's Eves ask the following people
Many people think that only programmers are going to
be able to make big
money from this situation. Here is a list of other peple which I think
are
going to be in demand due to the ripple effects of the Y2K bug through
out
the many facets of our lives that computers run.
We, as a people, wanted things faster, cheaper and more functional.
We did not question how it was done nor did we question how well
automation was thought out. We demanded devices to be more
intellegent as we let our
general population become dumber, less responsible and untrustworthy.
Why
trust a building super to inspect an elevator every 6 months,
when
we can shut down the elevator if we can not verify that it has
been
inspected.
We want 24 hour service, without paying someone a 24 hour
paycheck. Lookat the banking industry and how it's changed in the
past 20 years. Where I grew up in Springfield, MA. there were 2 bank
branch offices
in the Industrial Park area. At first they were
open late on paydays, Thursdays and Fridays. Then came the ATM - 24
hour
banking which both branches installed. Then both banks reduced their
hours,
but even if one worked overtime on a payday, they were still able to go
to
the bank. My bank then put in a branch ATM near their competitor's
branch
office. Now when one goes into the
neighborhood only one branch office is open during business hours to
serve
the needs of the local businesses - people can use machines. The other
bank has replaced it's branch office with a branch ATM and a sign with
directions to "nearby" branch offices.
I have heard runors that some computers are going to
suddendly see vast
amounts of food stocked in warehouses as being 100 years old on January
1,
2000, (True)
and as a result tons of food
will be tossed out (False). Remember
where
I said Capitalism and hard work are going to pull us through? Well how
do
you think the food distributers are going to make money? Not by paying
someone to haul it to the dump!
Celibrate December 31, 1999 as if you are going to go
camping for 2 weeks to
a month in the boonies (no store, utilities, etc...) Have extra
supplies on
hand as other "friends" and family are not going to be as prepared as
you.
